Arhus Airport (AAR) Information: History and Facilities
Aarhus Airport was founded in 1943 by German occupants, during WWII and built in the suburb of Stabrand, within the Tirstrup area, previously being referred to as Tirstrup Airport. However, the airport was not actually fully operational until 1946, when the first flight between Aarhus to Copenhagen took place.
Over the years, the runways at Arhus Airport have been extended to meet the demands of larger passenger aircraft and the current terminal was inaugurated in 1981. Today, Arhus Airport is well connected to the city by the adjacent Route 15 (Fruerlundvej), and boasts recently improved facilities. For shopping and gifts, the Euroshop shopping centre contains a good selection of stores, including tax-free merchandise, along with practical items and Danish souvenirs at the gift shop.
The terminal at Arhus Airport also houses a VIP lounge and conference rooms capable of accommodation up to 50 people, with a cafe and restaurant located close by. Car hire firms have offices here and Arhus Airport offers short-term and long-term parking in its single parking lot.
